lumpybanger is the blog of Matthew Schlanger video artist and synth builder who for a time worked and made art at the experimental television center and he has some fantastic work and photos of his system well worth a look

from the blog:
"I went to Binghamton University in 1976 and studied video with Ralph Hocking in Binghamton’s Cinema Department. Ralph introduced me to image processing and the ETC. In 1981, I became one of the local artists-in-residence at ETC. I also worked for both the ETC and for Dave Jones’ Design Lab in Owego, NY.; where I built many of the image processing machines designed by Mr.Jones and used by ETC studio artists for over twenty five years."

Sabrina Ratté

I thought it would be a good opportunity to post about Sabrina Ratté's work as she has just completed a video for Boxcutter and posted to Diamond Variations which is her very good blog. Her work utilizes video feedback and other video manipulation techniques with very interesting results.

Musi-Video!!!

Here Is something really intriguing an audio visual music television program from 1980s Montreal. The Videos are posted to youtube by marcf5656

I would like to know more about the production of the videos as some of them seem to have a consistent feel and a clever use of effects and an eye for the glitchy and unusual

from Wikipedia

"Musi-Video show was a Music television series which ran on the PBS network in Canadabetween 1980 and 1984. It was a very early example of the format that later would be adopted by the creation of MTV and MuchMusic.

It was the creation of Marc Fontaine, who was also behind the new wave pop groupNudimension. Recorded in Montreal, it featured early 1980s music artists playing live in a studio and early music videos.

In 2008 the Musi-Video brand was revived as a Music publishing label by Marc Fontaine."

VideoRing

here is a mega cool video ring featuring some of Dave Jones tech to keep everything in sync

"Video Ring by “The Art Guys” was commissioned by Continental Airlines.

The work consists of 80 color monitors with video playing on all screens, synchronized to create an 80 channel frame synchronizer programmed to play so that there is an offset of 3 frames per player.

This gives the installation motion with the images seeming to rotate around the ring at a fast and continuous rate. This has created a smooth continuous video for travelers to enjoy as they walk through the airport terminal."

Analog approaches, non-linear editing, and compositing

interesting site here

"Perhaps one of the earliest pioneers of this analog computer animation approach was Lee Harrison III. In the early 1960s, he experimented with animating figures using analog circuits and a cathode ray tube. Ahead of his time, he rigged up a body suit with potentiometers and created the first working motion capture rig, animating 3D figures in real-time on his CRT screen. He made several short films with this system, called ANIMAC."
